Preserve Our Citizens' Election Program: Keep Dark Money Out of 2016 State Election Contests

The League of Women Voters of Connecticut calls for state legislators to reject the Democrats' budget proposal that would suspend our vital Citizens' Election Program forthe important 2016 state elections. This proposal effectively eliminates our nationally acclaimed program of partial, voluntary public financing, in which some 74% of state candidates participated in the 2014 elections. And the proposal ignores the demands of the voters for more accountability from candidates, not more dark money flowing into campaigns, which is the inevitable outcome of destroying the Citizens' Election Program.
