Action Alert: Expand Access to Health Insurance in CTCall Governor Rell today and tell her to sign the Health Care Partnership Act (HB 5536)
The Healthcare Partnership ACT would allow municipalities, nonprofits and small businesses to voluntarily join the state employee health insurance pool. Small businesses and non-profits have difficulty offering health insurance to their employees and support the Health Care Partnership Act. Having a larger pool of employees should make health care more affordable and would enable the state to ask major insurers for competitive bids. Perhaps that is the reason why a major insurance company is opposed. Governor Rell is getting pressure from Anthem who says they will need to reset higher rates due to the anticipated increase in new clients in the state employee pool. Tell Governor Rell that it is not immediately obvious why covering more people will result in higher insurance premiums. Tell her that you believe every effort should be made to make affordable, quality health care available to all our state’s residents.
Call or email Governor Today and ask her to sign HB 5536 Email: governor.rell@po.state.ct.us Call: During business hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) at (860) 566-4840 Or toll free at 1-800-406-1527. Or fax her a message at 860-524-7395.
Together we can make a difference. The League believes that every resident should have access to a basic level of care and this bill is a step in that direction.
