TELL GOVERNOR RELL AND MEMBERS OF THE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE THAT TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR GLOBAL WARMING SOLUTIONS
SUPPORT HB 5600 AAC GLOBAL WARMING SOLUTIONS
Connecticut is falling behind in its efforts to voluntarily reduce green house gas emissions according to a study on emissions throughout New England released on March 26, 2008. While Connecticut reduced industrial, commercial and power plant emissions, transportation emissions increased by a staggering 20%. HB 5600 would call for mandatory reductions in green house gases and establish low-carbon fuel standards for home heating and motor vehicle fuels.
Please call or e-mail Governor Rell during business hours on Wednesday in advance of the Governor’s Climate Change Conference at Yale University this Friday. Ask her to join Governor Schwarzenegger of California and Governor Corzine of New Jersey in calling for action to provide mandatory emission reductions for Connecticut this year.
Sample Message: Governor Rell: Please take the opportunity to voice your strong support for statewide mandatory reductions in green house gas emissions at the Governor’s Conference on Climate Change this Friday at Yale. We must try to equal what California and New Jersey have already done to combat global warming. Connecticut residents deserve no less.
Call Governor Rell at 850-566-4840 or 800-406-1527 (toll-free) during business hours on Wednesday or e-mail her at governor.rell@ct.gov with copies to her Chief of Staff, Lisa Moody at lisa.moody@ct.gov .
HB 5600 will be sent from the House floor to the Appropriations Committee because of the significant fiscal impact it will have on the General Fund (19-21 new positions and other costs). Please contact your State Representative or State Senator if they serve on Appropriations and ask them to ensure that there is funding to monitor and enforce mandatory caps. Direct contact from citizens is still the best way to persuade elected officials. Please add your voice to combat global warming.
Please call or e-mail the legislators below and tell them to vote for HB 5600. Tell them that we need them to protect us from the impact of green house gas emissions on our regions’ climate.
